Resin Base Masters

I plan to resin cast bases for my Praetorians.  I am planning on making an earthworks/trench theme.  Have a look at the picture and tell me what you think.  I intend to add melee bags after they are cast.  That way there will be even more variety.

For those interested, the boards are made with cut up matchsticks.  It was a cheap way to put together several bases.

A Very Happy Birthday

Well today was a very good birthday.  I got a new X-Box (I know I am behind the times).  Spent some good time with family.  Unfortunately I go back to work tomorrow.

In hobby news, I assembled a prototype lascannon.  It is pretty much Col. Gravis' design.  The only difference is the the front shield.  I used a heavy bolter shield, cut it in half, and put the left side on the right of the cannon and vice versa.  Here are some pictures.

I need something in the middle, directly beneath the lascannon.  Any suggestions?

Ratling Sniper Color Scheme

OK, as I write this I realize that I don't have many followers.  I hope that as my army grows, so will my following.  Anyway, for those who are interested and willing, I am looking for an opinion on colors for my ratlings.  I am using the old metal ratlings who were wearing button up coats.  Here is a picture of them. (not mine)
Should I paint them red to match the normal infantry, or with dark green which was the historical color of the Rifle Regiments during the Anglo-Zulu Wars?

My thoughts right now are red just to limit my color palette.  I appreciate any input.

Galloper Guns Arrived

I just got in an order of some Dogs of War Galloper Guns.  I won two off of ebay.  I am slowly building all the parts for this army.  In case anyone doesn't follow Col. Gravis, The Galloper Guns will be used for Lascannon chassis.  They are currently sitting in a Simple Green bath for some paint stripping.  I will post pictures once they are cleaned and I have assembled a prototype Lascannon.

Sentinels or no?

Just a quick question for anyone who sees this and would like to answer.  I plan on running an all footslogging army.  The metagame in my store is very mech.  I just want to throw everyone for a loop.  If you want to see a good example of an army like this being but to use check here-

My question is, do sentinels fit the "footslogger" theme.  Technically they have feet, but they also have armor.  I read a good tutorial on using Sentinels and if I find it, I will post it.  Anyway, just looking for feedback.  Let me know.

The Whole Lot

Here is the total of my Praetorian Forces.

Original Box with most still in boxes/blisters.  The loose metal models came that way.  The painted models are from my first attempt at painting this army.  I am proud to say that it is an even larger collection than the esteemed Col. Gravis.  I only hope that I can produce a good looking an army as he has.  I am waiting for some galloper guns and artillery wheels so I can begin conversion work.

Next we have the Models that I have so far selected to be my main force.  It consists of 1 Company Command Squad, 2 Platoon Command Squads with 5 Squads each, and 6 Heavy Weapons Teams.  I utilized all my standing and squatting poses for the whole "first rank fire, second rank fire" feel.  I also use all of my bayonet yielding models.

Here is a shot of them.

Here is a picture of the Firing line

There will be more to come in the near future.  I hope you all have enjoyed.

Test Model Painted

Here is my first model painted in the new color scheme. I am following Col. Gravis' Scheme for the most part. I am going for a traditional Zululand color scheme. My heavy weapons teams will be in all blue with red trim. Here is a side by side of this and my old army. I hope you agree it is much improved.

Humble Beginnings

Hello all. I am attempting to start a blog to motivate me to complete my Praetorian Guard Army. Having drooled over and been inspired by Colonel Gravis' Blog, I figured it was time to start mine.

I fell in love with the Praetorians from the time I read the Glazer's Creek BatRep in White Dwarf. I shortly thereafter bought 2 of the limited edition box sets. My obsession was only made worse when Games Workshop released this:

I promptly convinced my wife to let me purchase it because it was a good "investment". There it sat unopened until very recently.

In the mean time I used the limited edition box sets to paint up an army. My skill were weak but my passion was strong. Here is the result of that:
Looking at them now makes me want to hang my head in shame. Fortunately my painting skills have improved (at least I think they have).

Now to the present. I have finally decided to put this whole thing together. As it stands I have 529 infantry including heavy weapons and 15 Sentinels. I plan on playing a very infantry heavy army so I feel I have a good start.
