Finished up some models

Finally finished washing and basing my Scions.  I had enough backpacks to complete one squad.  I still need about a dozen more to finish the last squad, Tempestor Prime, and a few more sergeants.  Here is what the complete squad looks like.

I also completed a squad of Sentinels.  That makes a total of 6 Sentinels in my army.  I have 9 more in my collection.  They paint up pretty quick so they may get bumped up on my list of things to get done.

Finally, I assembled 3 squads of veterans.  If the weather holds up I will prime them tomorrow.  I think one of my goals since I have a little more hobby time is to get every model in my collection cleaned and primed.  At least that way progress is being made.

Scion Update and Request

I have finally completed the base coat on my 2nd Edition Stormtroopers/Scions. I hoped to have had them completed much earlier but my job has been keeping me busy during the COVID crisis. Little by little I am adding paint though.

In order to properly finish them I need 12 more backpacks though. If anyone has a line on them that would be awesome. I fortunately picked up this lot relatively cheap because they were missing the backpacks. Now I need them.

Up next are some sentinels. I primed them yesterday but forgot to take a picture. I guess I have something to post tomorrow.

Apocalypticon and COVID-19

I was just informed that due to concerns about COVID-19, as well as travel restrictions, the Apocalypticon event has been cancelled.  The staff at Miniwargaming were very apologetic and look forward to rescheduling it once things have settled down.  On a positive note, I got a lot of work done on my army.  It was very motivating and I hope to keep the momentum going.  It just means I have more time to build a larger army.  I was sitting around a 450 Power Level but I may be able to get it up to the maximum 500 Power Level.  Keeping my fingers crossed.

New Units and WIPs

My Apocalypticon army continues to grow.  I completed 3 Heavy Weapon squads with Autocannons.  I am trying to decide if I should put them in my Infantry Squads or leave it as a Heavy Weapons squad.  Leaning toward keeping them separate.

There is more where this came from.
Next, I continue to add to my Scions.  I currently have a squad of 10.  I am working on 20 more plus a Tempestor Prime.  I am using the old 2nd edition stormtroopers with berets. That will give me another detachment for my army.  They will drop in where needed and blast away with special weapons.

Coming along quite nicely.

Completed squad ready to drop in.
Next on the workbench will be three Sentinels with Lascannons.  Should be a pretty quick paint job on them.

Army Still Growing

I recently won an eBay auction for 10 old school Stormtroopers with berets.  I will now have enough to make three squads with four special weapons.  Two squads will have plasmaguns and one squad will have a mix of melta and plasma.  Additionally, one of the sergeant poses will be used as a Tempestor Prime.  I am super excited because that will give me the opportunity to make another Battalion Detachment for my Apocalypticon army.  I will post pictures as soon as the new miniatures come in.  The daunting task will be getting them painted in time.

Apocalypticon Army

Here is the current status of my army for Apocalypticon this April. It is currently 410 Power Level. I am going to try to get it to 450 PL by game time.

Tournament Tactics

My army was recently showcased on Mordian Glory's YouTube channel.  I had proposed a question to him about how to speed up my tournament play after my abysmal showing at a local ITC.  He makes some good points.  Top of the list is to be completely familiar with the army.  Time wasted looking up rules and stats is time not spent beating your opponent.  To find out what else he had to say, check out the video here: "How to Play Fast with Hordes"

I hope you like it.  Make sure you read the comments.  There is additional advice in there such as using specific colored dice to identify different weapons.

Rough Riders

My Rough Riders are complete. They will be a nice touch to the look, feel, and play of the army. Without further ado, here they are.

I want to make a few more of these. If anyone has at least 5, but preferably 10 of Col. Gravis’ models,  let me know. I can pay or have infantry models I can trade.

Steady Progress

I have continued painting in preparation for Apocalypticon in April. I finished painting a Gravis Pattern Heavy Bolter. This along with the 5 others already painted will be added as heavy weapons teams to an infantry squad. This gave me extra riflemen that I added to existing painted clambers to make 3 more special weapons squads. I also completed a squad of ratlings so I now have two full squads of 10. The ratlings and heavy bolter still need basing and washing but other than that they are tabletop ready.
I am currently working on rough riders and expect them to be done at the end of the week. After that it is onto Ogryns.

Tournament Pics

Here are some pictures of my all infantry list fighting in an ITC tournament. I didn’t do very well because I kept running out of time (used chess clocks). My record was 0 wins, 2 losses, and a tie.  The army plays well and has a lot of synergy. I think with some practice I can play faster. Also I haven’t played an 8th edition game in a while. I kept forgetting to utilize some of my stratagems. If anyone knows a good tactics website to ensure I am maximizing this army’s potential, please let me know.

Merry Christmas Indeed!

This Christmas, Santa brought me something that I have wanted for many years. I finally got the Rorke’ Drift set with Horns of the Buffalo expansion from Warlord Games. This has been a dream of mine to complete my Praetorians. I couldn’t wait to assemble the buildings and set it up. It has about a 3’x5’ footprint so would dominate most gaming tables.

I think it could work for playing the Glazer’s Creek scenario since the Orks come in from the edges and that would leave 12” around the perimeter.  Super excited to get it painted up.

Here are some pictures to see how it scales with the Praetorians.

Right on track!!

Somehow I managed to do it. My entire 2000 point footslogger army is completely painted. Here are some updated pictures.

They are not 100% complete but I am on track to have them done by Christmas. I only need to dullcoat varnish them and add static grass to the bases. As they are, the army is completely ready to put on the tabletop.

Once I am done the final touches I will do an entire army shot including my tanks and some additional elites choices. The full army will be participating in Apocalypticon at the Miniwargaming Bunker this April. Check out information here: Apocalypticon

I will be documenting that event in this blog. I hope you all will enjoy.

Nearly There

I am way behind my goal but I was able to get some more painting in. At this point my 2000 point all infantry is completely base coated. Now on to basing and washing. If all goes well I will have it complete by the end of next week. My new goal is to have everything done including dull coat by Christmas.

Almost complete

Well I didn't get as far as I would have liked in my painting, but I made a lot of progress.  All of the colors that apply to all the models are done.  Now I just have to go and do things like the brown coats on my psykers and the metal for powerfists.  Shooting for the end of this months.  Wish me luck.

Painting Continues

I have stayed on track an have been able to paint for several hours every night.  If I continue at this pace I should have all the base coats done by this weekend.  There may be some additional work on some of the characters, but I will take them as they come.

I have been painting just one color at a time for the whole army. I pull out a squad and work on that color.  When they are done, I pull out another and do the same.  At this rate, I have been completing on color every 2 days.  All that I have left are White and Silver. There are a few models like the buglers that have gold but I figure I can do all the miscellaneous colors in one day.

Once all that is done then I will be ready to base them.  I may grab a few models who aren't in the 2000 point list instead of basing since I am on a roll with painting.  I guess I will see how I feel come this weekend.

Sorry there are no pictures. I figured I would wait until I had all the base coats done.  I will let you all know when I reach that milestone.

Painting Update

Another quick update on the army.  I have completed the blouses, trousers, and boots on all the models.  Technically the helmets and belts are done as well since they are white, but I will still go back over them to cover any stray paint marks.  It is now time to start the details like epaulets and skin.  I am going to have some decent time to paint over the next few weeks and hope to have them ready for basing and wash by mid October.

The whole 2000 points nearing completion
I also finished up the banners for the army.  The guy on the left is painted in artillery colors as he will be carrying the banner for my support battalion which has all my heavy weapons in it.  I imagine that there is an artillery regiment that is providing detachments to the infantry units and he has brought the regimental standard with him.  The guy on the right is carrying a company standard in the same blue color as their trim.  Finally, the guy in the center is carrying the Praetorian XIV Regimental Colors.

Missile Launcher Conversion

Way back when, I supported COL Gravis’ Kickstarter for Heavy Weapons and Carriages. Unfortunately there were only 10 carriages and a lot of different weapons. I used all the carriages for lascannons and was left nothing for the missile launchers.  They are supposed to look like this.

I just discovered a workable solution that still fits the Victorian theme I want to keep. I utilized the tripod from Cadian Heavy Weapons and mounted the Missile Launcher Sled to it. The final conversion looks like this. The adjustment wheel is a little free standing but it gets the point across.

Here is what it looks like with a Heavy Weapons Crew. I think they look pretty good for a simple conversion. I plan to paint the rocket body one color but the nose another color.  I will paint the rocket that is in the loader's hands same color as the nose.  That way it looks like it plugs into a missile body.  I am going to try to sculpt or mold some additional missiles without nose cones.

Painting Progress

I have managed to get at least 2 colors on all of my 2000 point infantry army. I also put a little effort into a squad of Ogryns and a squad of Railings. Plugging along and hope to be completely done in a few months.

Did Praetoria fall with Cadia?

Where are all my fellow Praetorians?  I am finally getting around to finishing my Praetorian infantry. I got a lot of motivation when I last worked on my army by reading posts in other blogs. It looks like hat has dried up. I am hoping my posts may bring some of you out of hiding. I have also thought about posting videos of me rambling while I paint. Is this something that would interest anyone? Let me know. I hope to hear from someone.  Praetoria Lives!!
