Resin Base Masters

I plan to resin cast bases for my Praetorians.  I am planning on making an earthworks/trench theme.  Have a look at the picture and tell me what you think.  I intend to add melee bags after they are cast.  That way there will be even more variety.

For those interested, the boards are made with cut up matchsticks.  It was a cheap way to put together several bases.

  1. I would bulk up the ground around the planks a bit more. I made some bases like this, and the boards looked too extreme. I am looking forward to seeing how you do the bags. Mine turned out pretty bad.

  2. I like the idea, but you do need to bulk up the ground or cut the plank's in half so that they are thinner.

  3. I have had a little think about your bases. If you don't mind spending a little bit of money there is a company that do fantastic trench bases at a low price. They are based in America and I would highly recommend them as I have shopped from them, and there products are top quality. I hope this link works, if not Google them or pop over to my blog were I have the link for them.

  4. While I appreciate Commissar Dave's plug for the trench bases -- I might also just suggest using the new hollow blanks we offer.

I'm doing a new trench set to take advantage of the hollows so you can add water effects. Even without that addition it keeps you from having to make the bases so tall.

You've created some good variation here - adding sandbags after you cast is a good plan. Little things like that can make all the difference.

If you have a steel or brass brush - you can find 'em at hardware stores for roughly $1 - I recommend running it over the wood to get a better texture before you cast. It's a quick way to kick it up a notch. And thank you for using real wood to create the look of real wood :)
